Signs your wheels need balancing
- The steering wheel shakes at highway speeds, often between 90 and 110 km/h.
- The seat or floor vibrates.
- Tires wear in patches or cups.
How balancing works
Every tire and wheel has small differences in weight. We spin each wheel on a balancing machine, which shows where weight is needed, then add small weights to the rim so it turns smoothly.
When to balance
Balance wheels whenever new tires are mounted, when you feel a vibration, and every time tires come off the rim. If your winter tires are on steel wheels, check the balance at each changeover.
Balancing or alignment?
Balancing fixes vibration. Alignment fixes a car that pulls to one side or a steering wheel that is off-centre. If you notice uneven wear on the inside or outside edge of your tires, have your alignment checked as well.
